a few weeks ago my computer started overheating, and i called my tech support, and they said my cpu fan was running 2 slowly. So i got a new one that runs at 3000-4000 rpm most of the time. However when i play farcry or counter strike for a hour or so, my computer always freezes, and when I restart the temp is up to 60C+. I can also feel the heat comming from my prosessor area. In General when i turn it on after being off for a while the temp starts on like 35ish i guess. Then it ussually doesn't get above 50C unless im playing a game for a while. I need to fix this heat problem. I have room on my case for 4 80mm fans. ANyone know of some Fan that will produce some good cooling? I dont really care about the noise that much, i just want get 2 fans or so that will really cool this down. I looked on newegg, but they have so many fans varying from $4-$20 in price. Can someone reccomend a particular fan, or link me to one. Also does this fan look anygood?

it can be kinda tricky to fit b/c it hits the northbridge heatsink on some motherboards so you will have to do somthing about that....
a new fan wont do anything you need a new heatsink and a new fan this is the best heatsink out there right now.....
the SP-94 with a Tornado would do wonders also but i looked at 5 differnt places online and they are all sold out of them..
the XP-120 is better anywho.
stock heatsinks suck but i still wanna know the above questions tho......

Did you change anything on the computer lately?
Maybe there's not a good connection between the CPU and the heatsink (ie the thermal paste stuff wasn't put on properly)

yeah... 3000-4000 rpms isn't really that fast anyway... but it should still be doing the trick. do you have any case fans, though? w/out case fans you are just re-circulating the same hot air over the heatsink, rather pointlessly. you need at least a couple of case fans to circulate air through the case. ideally, you should have the fan(s) near your processor blowing air out, that way the hot air isn't going back into the case, and the other case fan(s) should be blowing air into it. Also, make sure you don't keep your computer in a boxed in area (like a desk w/ a door).
i keep mine in my desk, but the back is open w/ a few inches to breathe between the desk and the wall... plus i just open the little door when I'm playing games, etc.
really need your system info to give any advice. my system seems to run hotter than usual when playing farcry, no shutdowns tho.

i figured out my problem. I need thermal compound between heatsink and processor. I recently replaced the fan and heatsink, and my tech support company said it was easy, just take out old one and put in new one, NO mention of any kind of paste :x . But now I HAve ordered some arctic silver stuff, and my friend is gonna help me put it on right. Thanks for the idea about case fans, i have basically none right now, but i orded 2 off newegg. Ill let you guys now how it goes.
btw Daytona, i have 2.8 p4, not sure wat socket, but its standard intel p4..., im using core center to check my cpu temp, Can some link this mobo monitor 5? nothing is overclocked
