SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
I installed Windows XP yesterday and when I enable "Overlay Mode" the only resolution that will work on the TV is 720x480 which makes the picture look squashed vertically. I used TVTool to try and give me some more options than the nVidia's latest driver. In TVTool 9 I have check boxes next to 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480 and 720x480 but clicking on anything besides 720x480 will not work. This is extremely annoying when watching anything because everything is stretched out.
TV Out worked PERFECT with Windows 2000 all I had to do was enable the TV as my full screen device. In XP when ever I open a video I can see the video card trying each resoution (it takes about 5 secs to cycle through) and then it stops on 720x480.
I have looked all over the net but noone seems to have touched on this subject, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

okay, after installing xp, did you install the video card driver from Nvidia. are u using the default windows xp driver or are did you reinstall the nvidia driver? in my opinion, the cycle through sounds like your not using forceware driver. or are u sure you are in dualview if you are using the tv as a second monitor. Because it also sounds like you are in a resolution for a horizontal span or vertical span. I only use horizontal span when i want my screensaver to go through both monitors like in swordfish. horizontal span though is a combined resolution for both monitors. look through nview properties. Or your in clone mode instead of dual view. clone is exactly the same resolution as the primary, so if your tv cannot support what your primary display is set on, then it will reduce. clone mode is not the same as dual view. seriously, are you familiar with nview.

Thanks for your reply, but yes I am very familar with nView and have installed the latest nForce driver. I am running in clone mode where the tv is displaying my desktop. While showing the desktop it runs at 800x600 (and pans) but when I open any video which supports overlay, it jumps down from 1280x1024 to 720x480. I have tried making my desktop 800x600, same problem. i tried 1024x768, same problem. It's possesed!!! thanks though for your input, any other ideas?

okay then try dual view instead of clone mode. set the desired level of resolution on the monitor and then set the desired level of resolution on tv in dual view not clone mode. try dual view and let me know. 1024x768 on my tv works in dual view. same with 800x600. this guy had same problem http://www.videocardforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=122

okay, have you tried disabling the overlay then, and go with the video mirror. diable overlay in nview and try using the video mirror. i just tried my other video card 4600titanium and it works just fine with 53.03. so if you think overlay is the problem then disable it.

video mirror is a great because it will disable overlay and zoom it on the tv at the resolution of 1024x768

man! you would think that would work but as soon as i Fullscreen Windows Media Player on the TV side of the screen, it squashes the video AGAIN. this time it doesnt detect anything, it just does it.
maybe i should try an older video driver?

When you use video mirror, you don't have to fullscreen windows media player on the tv side. All you have to do is put it on zoom.First, make sure you enabled nview desktop manager in properties or else when u right click, nview properties will not show. Try this, right click on desktop, click on nview properties, then the zoom tab, then check the box that says"enable zoom of video playback(disables overlay)" make sure the box is checked. Then click the Full Screen Video Zoom bar in that tab. Then in full screen video window, you see where it says full screen device, click auto select, then go to zoom control in same window and click video mirror. Now apply, now when ever you use windows media player or divx, etc... Video mirror will zoom playback on the tv side for you. you don't have to maximize on tv side if you do this, it will zoom for you. And at 1024x768, movies do look great. If you want to see a pic of what zoom will look on my 32 inch wega using video mirror just feel free to ask, i will take a pic with my digital camera. Make sure, you are in Dualview though not clone mode. Also, save the profile after your done so you don't forget. make sure you set a nice resolution for the tv also, Good luck

well that was definately a good shot, I had never seen those menus before but SAME problem and even when I use the ZOOM tool, it zooms, but it leaves black bars on the sides (black bars that should be the video but it squishes the video and maximizes the horitontal leaving no black bars on the top) I think it's displaying it in 1024x768 but since it's a video it has to SQUISH it
this is what it looks like

this is how it should look

Mine has a little bit too, this is a window media pic and it has a little. somehow it is pan scanning your view. try another media player like divx or when playing dvd's , use power dvd. When i switch the movie to widescreen, i get black bars on top and bottom. you get them on the side so i am assuming it is somehow in pan and scan mode. but nice talking to you and i hope you continue to talk on this forum. Sorry, i couldn't help but, that's weird.

I have definately made a BIG improvement. This is for anyone else who may be in the same boat as me...
1) I uninstalled the new nVidia driver (53.03) with Windows "Add-Remove Programs"
2) Restart
3) I installed the older nVidia driver version 45.23 (available at http://www.guru3d.com )
--- at this point it was still pretty much the same problem ---
4) I opened up TVTOOL9 (which I did try with the newer driver 53.03 also with no luck) and I made sure under mode to check that the picture size was set to "Fullscreen" while using Video Overlay and bam bam, looking MUCH better so far. I still think it looked even better in Windows 2000 but I have still to run more video files and test it more.
TVTOOL9 is available at http://tvtool.info/ for some price... not sure what price. I snagged it from DC++
hope all my time, and darkclone13's time have helped someone else out. any questions feel free to email me dizzidazzle@hotmail.com
P.S. the only reason I even installed Windows XP (sorry excuse for an OS) was so I can use Adobe's latest programs Premiere 7.0 Pro, and DVD Encore
... ugh...
