What is the best buy:
Amd Athlon 64 3200+ for $190
or
Amd Athlon 64 2800+ for $130
is the 3200 really worth the extra 60 bucks?

if ur willing to spend 15 extra on a good fan and overclock then it isn't.. you wouldn't see much difference in all honesty

hehe intel fan boys would not like this. but in general amd 2500+ is SUPPOSED to perform like an intel 2.5, 2800 like 2.8, 3200 like 3.2. but that's usually not the case. for normal applications an amd 3200 could perform like an intel 3.0 but in general (especially with the new 64 bit windows) atleast in gaming amd 64 3200 should easily outperform an intel 3.2 But again this is just what i've heard and what I've read. anyways, amd 64 bit is an excellent choice; for me, the reason would be unlocked multipliers  (that's right, i'm obsessed with unlocked multipliers  )

is this for a differnt computer? otherwise paying to switch from a p4 3.2 pressy to 3200+ or 2800 athlon would be a foolish thing indeed.

Lookin for the smoke... Think I saw some on the office applications..... something about 'data analysis' and 'internet content creation'??? hmmm... don't think i care about that... mmmm games... intels sure aren't 'smokin' anymore.. the intel EE looks like it beats the crap outta some of them.. oops, its $800 bucks, i think not...
Our makeshift measure of relative price/performance has shown that the 2800+ is a solid value for the money. The processor performs similarly to the slightly faster 512kB L2 Clawhammer based 3000+, and it offers consumers another entry point into the current generation of Athlon 64 processors.
From pricewatch:
cheapest a64 3200 = $148
cheapest p4 3.2 = $204
p4 extreme edition = $840
yup, no offense to any 'intel buttlovers'... but... well..
