Well just saw AVP, all in all I can't really decide if it was good. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was very.......lacking. *Warning: This review does contain spoilers* With that being said, AVP:
Well the story starts out in October, 2004(yes it's surprisingly a present date movie). To get the jist of the story line, basically a human satelite finds an ancient pyramid in Antarctica that is thousands of miles underground. Well as you find out later in the movie, the pyramid was built thousands of years ago by a group of Predators, at the dawn of civilization. Mankind viewed the Predators as Gods, and the Predators would only come to Earth every hundred years. Now with all this talk about Predator I'm sure you're wondering where Alien comes to play in this. Well each 100 years, the Predators would come to Earth and sacrifices were needed. With these human sacrifices, Predator would put a face-hugger on each one(the space huggers were probably taken from another planet with Alien on it, the movie doesn't really explain). Thus the face-hugger would combine with human DNA and what do you get? Alien. The sole purpose for Aliens were for hunting pleasures for Predator, but Aliens quickly outnumbered the Predators and one Predator was forced to self-destruct, destroying everything except for the pyramid. Now 1000+ years later, Predator has returned(even though they supposedly did return every 100 years even after the destruction but the movie doesn't go in to detail on that). The humans are lured by the Predators to the pyramid so they can get face-hugged and become Aliens. There's about 12 humans in total, with the main character being this black chick. Well what starts out as an excibition quickly turns in to a blood fest. Once the first man is killed it all goes down from there. This is not your typical dragged-out-death movie. Once people start dying there is long periods where no one dies like in most horror/sci-fi movies. I'd say the first 5 people are killed off within 5 minutes, and another 4 or 5 within the next 15. Finally the black chick is the only one left alive cause either Alien or Predator has killed everyone else. Now come to find out, Predator is only hunting the humans because they stole guns belonged to Predator from the pyramid. The black chick finally realizes this and she returns it to Predator and asks for his friendship(kinda). He is about to kill her when she proves her strength and kills an Alien. Predator then lets her live and teams up with her. Now a lot of cool **** happens and in the end it turns out to be a huge ass Queen Alien and the black chick and Predator left. Now aside from the minor story details missing, the movie is really good until this point. I mean the fight scenes with Predator were kick ass and the deaths were cool as hell. But then the end is just so........boring. To kill the Queen ALien, they throw her in to the ocean. Yup, you heard me, the ocean. No cool explosions, no blood and guts, just a huge Alien freezin her ass of in the Arctic. Right before she goes in though, she stabs Predator with her tail. Well, you could expect he was going to die, but god it was so boring as well. He didnt self destruct or say some cool **** in the Predator language, or laugh evily, none of that. He just fell over and died. Then the Predator ship comes and picks him up and the movie ends with the dead Predator lying on a table and then BAM! He got face-hugged half-way through the movie so a half Alien-half Predator creature is born, thus ending the movie and leaving you to form you own opinion. The movie does not really tell who wins, its really just an opinion on who kicked more ass(which, if you want to get technical would be the black chick, but because Predators fight scenes were just plain cool I'm going with him.) Aside from the ending the movie was really good, I mean seriously, Predator is a total badass in this movie. All in all I'm giving AVP a 7 out of 10.
