as i see they r both australian. the big pond seems to be the better one. for $59.99 you get unlimited usage allowance. with ncable u have to choose your download limit and for $59.99 u can have 1GB where the bigpond offers 10GB (befor the speed goes down). i would go with bigpond and SELF INSTALLATION! (u dont want to spend extra $200).

Well first a few questions
1)what do you plan on using this connection for? PC Games? leeching? give us some examples.
2)Why cable and not adsl?

If you're a heavy downloader, you're going to need unlimited downloads. I personally would ather have slower, unlimited dowloads than fast limited downloads.

Cable is faster than DSL. Ask DWells. He has cable and it is way better than my DSL for example. I know that there are different types of DSL, but still the fact is the fact. Cable is faster.

I'm well aware of the speed difference but in Australia cable has many negatives, low download limits, bad service, no real competition resulting in a much more static bunch of plans plus extremely long contracts. Personally, I had the choice between cable and ADSL and I chose ADSL, mainly because of the larger download limit, higher upload rate on higher end ADSL (aussie cable is only 128k upload). Everything depends on preferences and to know whats good for you, you need to work out what you're going to use it for.

If you already have a cable line installed, you can only use that cable with the company that installed it I believe(Optus, Teltra or NCable) . So I would find out who owns it and that will be who your stuck with ;). By the way, you state twice that bigpong is unlimited, its not. It is a dodgy way of saying you have 10GB's downloads but once you hit 10GB your shaped to modem speed. (64Kbit which is about 8Kbytes/s).
http://broadbandsales.optusnet.com.au/pricing.html <-- If its an optus line then thats their pricing. Read the fine print of course.
But if your just browsing I think about 10gb will be enough for you. You'd be surprised how little you actually need. So many people seem to think they're going to need a large download limit for such trivial things. :?

My bad. Forgot that camperz in in Australia. And yeah 10GB is way over the roof, but it's always better to have more than to have less. ;)

LOL, I use 10 GBs every 3 days! Which explains why my 260 GBs of HD space is 90% full...

LOL, nope, that's not what it is. I download episodes of 24, Alias, and The Simpsons. I download full operating systems (Linux, mostly), and a ton of full aps and games. It adds up real quick.
