That doesn't seem too far off.... programs like Kazaa usually hog resources!
DVD-Man
05-22-2004, 03:43 AM
But yes.... check your running processes as some spyware can hog some resources too such as "savenow!". :?

so.. what do you guys suggest? i also looked at my task manager and i ended the tasks i don't need.. the end answer is... 26% load... im still not satisfied :( u guys any have suggestions to lower my load?
DVD-Man
05-22-2004, 04:36 AM
What's wrong with 26% load? Also what processes were running that you didn't need? Any spyware? You'll need to get rid of them if so & anything you don't want started at boot remove from the startup list..
Only other option is to get more RAM :)

You may want SpywareBlaster (dunno the url, just Google it), it stops most spyware from getting there in the first place!

spyware is just a name given to a type of software that is used to "spy" on your doings and happenings on your com. they program may send back info to a company to use in advertisments or sumin
DVD-Man
05-23-2004, 05:21 AM
Well each piece of "spyware" does a different thing... most common are ones like camperz said & other ones pop advertisements @ you whenever they want etc..
Not everything these programs find you should remove tho... read the descriptions on what they find... some programs you download for free (like winamp, realplayer etc etc) may be ad supported & sometimes these programs will trigger this as spyware.... if you remove the ads from these programs be aware they may not run any longer.
If you're not aware of any "built-in" ads in the program than it's probably some "hidden" spyware doing something you don't know about or something like that. & you probably shoudl remove it.
But, I think both these programs offer you to "backup" your changes so if you muck up your programs or something you can redo it. ;)

First off, i would like to say that i am surprised to see the admin allowing the talk of kazaa, bit torrent, warez and piracy in this forum. Most forums you go to they warn you to quit it or they post rules in their forum of such talk will result in ban. Try talking like that in gamespy and see what happens? Anyways, i advise for some of you to pm each other when talking about kazaa, bt and other stuff.
Secondly, spyware is an old tool, don't be so naive. The enforcement agencies like the police, RIAA, MPAA, FBI are the ones you should be careful of. If they want to check what your doing, they just check into your internet and then contact your ISP. Most ISP will cooperate with these enforcement agencies. If you want to use anti-spyware to prevent pop-ups or other things such as DVD man suggests that go right ahead.
My neighbor came over about 6 months ago and was concerned because she had gotten a letter from her ISP and universal studios that if her teenager didn't remove the movie and stopped downloading their movies, that they would take further action. Her teenage son argued saying that it was impossible for them to find out. Well then how did they find out?, they peer into your internet. And guys, Peer guardian doesn't work either, once you pirate software, they know. Word of advice, i wouldn't talk about bit torrent out in the open in this forum like i saw, talk in private.
And seriously, you guys are lucky to have an admin who allows such talk. Thanks DVD man.

I do notice they're still have been a couple references to it, so I will say again.. keep that talk to PM's .. I do not want to be having to delete posts or issueing warnings.
Thank you DC for bringing this to my attention again!

BitTorrent, Kazaa (Lite), SoulSeek, WinMX etcetera are al perfectly legal. Saying we download stuff with them in no way illegal, but if we lined to a page that had the torrens or the torrent itself, then I could see it being a problem. Someone I knew onine just got busted for using BitTorrent to download Resident Evil: Outbreak. That's the first I've seen of anyone getting busted for video games. Darn, I guess I should sto using the torrent site he was using.

It's what you use them for & how you refer to them that's illegal. ;)

Yes exactly, which is why I said

It's also a problem when you discuss them because you are referring to them about doing illegal things with them. ;)

05-23-2004, 12:18 PM
Yes, but saying "I download whatever with whatever prog" doesn't mean much. After all, everyone kos you can download w/e with P2P progs. Most of the forums I've been on dont care if you say oh yeah, I downloaded whatever, it's a problem if you say how and where to get it.
DVD-Man
05-23-2004, 12:23 PM
It's simple... you can't talk about downloading illegal things off any of those programs here.
If it's illegal you can't discuss it on this forum!

Yeah, I'm not arguing with you, it's your rules and I respect them. Just how I see it.

I'm going to Canada next week, where music P2P piracy was legalized! How cool is that? I think the same rules applies for apps, movies, and games. So, I'm downloading and sharing a crapload of music in Canada. See, I'm saying something legal, because you never specified what country it had to be illegal in.

I wouldn't reocmmend you try & bend the rules like that. ;)
The reason it is legal in Canada is because they charge everyone excess on all blank tapes & CD's? bought & give that to the artists or something.
DWells
05-23-2004, 01:05 PM
Haha, I was just pointing out a loophole. No blank media is just as cheap over there as it is here (in fact a little cheaper, because an American dollar is worth more than a Canadian dollar and their price in Canadian $ are only slightly higher than our prices in US $). They don't give any money to the artists or anything, they just saw punishing people for music as rediculous as most music downloaders do.
DVD-Man
05-23-2004, 01:12 PM
Nope, I don't think thats how they did it... I know that's what they are doing to make it legal. I'm just not sure of the exact logistics of it.
DWells
05-23-2004, 01:28 PM
Really? I could swear when I read the article about the legalization I didn't see any exceptions lie that. Well, people will probably just import blank CDs from the US then.
DVD-Man
05-23-2004, 03:56 PM
I'm not sure exactly how they did it, if they added money onto them or if they have some kinda deal already in place & they have always been giving them a share or what, I don't even know if blank CD's were affected, but I guess they were, but I definately remember reading something like that when I found out about it.

Here we go:
"The act certainly has loopholes that need closing. Courts effectively have ruled that Canadians can swap copyrighted music files for free on the Internet while anyone who buys a blank tape or an MP3 player must pay a levy to the rightsholders. That's not fair. And seven years have passed since Canada signed two treaties under the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), but Parliament has never got around to passing laws to implement them."
