Thread: help?

    Default help?

    hello,

I can't really get around it, so I'm posting for help. I changed my computer unit a few weeks ago, due to hardware failure. So I ran GTR2(a SimBin simulator) in my old system and there it was, a rather annoying pixelated horizon(appears jagged)on all tracks. Here's an image for better understanding http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/1428/86234344.png ..be sure to enlarge.
Now, I changed all my video card settings many times to no avail, been playing with game options, none seem to fix it. What disturbs me, is that the game runs smooth, all is well filtered, except for the line at which the sky and earth appear to meet. I ran a test on GTL(another SimBin game) as well and had the the same nerve raking issue, I also ran rFactor(ISI game) and GTREvo(SimBin) with converted GTR2-GTL tracks and all went perfect(I should mention at this point that all the above games are based on the same platform, gmotor2 that is).
First of, why didn't it happen previously? Could it be hardware related? Or maybe while updating drivers, I'm confused. Can't figure out what is causing this, help please.

    AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Processor 4200+ 2.21 GHz
    2.00 GB of RAM
    Nvidia Geforce 7600GS

It looks like the AA settings aren't being applied to the horizon. Nothing serious, there is likely just a setting you missed somewhere. Make sure that in your nvidia control panel that all settings are set to let the program decide. Then make sure you are maxing out all your AntiAliasing settings in-game.

If your settings are already off in the control panel try turning on the forced AA. Start at about 4 or 6 and move up from there.

Also you might want to check for any patches for the two games experiencing this problem.

You may be right, I'll just have to check that in a moment. But, what I did recently, is updated the card drivers and had a quick setting using my Nvidia control panel and switched Antialiasing transparency from Off to Supersampling and that seems to have smoothed the horizon. Downside to it, is that gaming performance has got bad frame rates.
I'll get back to you later on,

    cheers

It may be that with the AA setting up your card is beginning to choke. A 7600GS isn't a very strong option when it comes to gaming.

No doubt, this system has seen better days a few years ago. Come to mention, those games came out just about in 2005, except GTRevo that was released in 2008 and still runs good. I checked that, letting 3D application decide what AA to be used, but it didn't unfortunately. It won't be for long though, until I replace me broken power unit and have it running properly. Thank's

Sorry, bit off topic, but what do you think of rFactor? (I've been thinking of getting it)

Well, if your into sim racing you should definetly give it a try. Now, what you need to keep in mind is that rF is more of a modding platform, that said you need to add special created mods, tracks to it. Default ones are, just my opinion, not worth the money paid for. But, what you get instead is a platform pretty much modable and, trust me on this, add-ons really give it a special umph. Should you decide, here's a second option for you http://www.rfactorcentral.com/rFactor_Lite.cfm (I use this, you could try both, lite or full version, see which one suites you better. Trial period works for both, 30 days at most)
Most important, here's a short add-on list you might want to try first, default won't be a pleasure to look at so make sure you give these a try before deleting it completely out of your system:

    Tracks,
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course by Virtua_LM
    Le Mans 1972-1986 by Virtua_LM
Eastern Creek Laser by Piddy (laser scanned track)
Oran Park LiDAR (laser scanned track)
    PutnamPark by Global Motorsport Technologies
    Vanport by Global Motorsport Technologies
    ...

    Mods,
    Historic GTTC
    F1 2006 by CTDP
    FSONE 2008 by I.P.M
    Legends Cars by trellet
    AE86 CLUB by gonzo-kool
Toyota Supra MKIV by Siim Annuk and Niels
    ...

check this website out for add-ons http://www.rfactorcentral.com/

I should mention at this point, you can improve the game quality by adding High Resolution textures to it, special plugins (best known is the RealFeelPlugin), and so many other. Just you browse that rfactor central webpage or check google for rFactor mods etc.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, it's the endless modding that's attracting me. The only game I've currently got close to a sim is Grand Turismo 3 & 4 - but there's a lot about the driving/handling that I don't like. Still a fun game - but I'm also sick of all the delays with GT5 so I was looking at a game for the PC.

A good pc racing game/sim for me would be iRacing, Race07(which may include GTREvolution, STCC, RaceON extension packs), LFS, rFactor, GTLegends etc. You should be able to give all a trial period, see which one comes close to your preferences.
